This Week's Episode: The incredibly frightening "dark side" of the UFO abduction phenomenon is presented by Butch Witkowski, Chief Investigator for MUFON Pennsylvania. If You Believe That, Let Me Tell You Another One!

In the months before Barack Obama took office, certain members of the Expolitics and disclosure movements began to assert how everything would soon by hunky dory in the UFO field. The reason, of course, was the man who preached "change you can believe in" would, among other things, tell us what the government really knows about UFOs.

When would this happen? Well, first it would come shortly after his inauguration, but Obama was later expected to spill the beans in a special address towards the end of 2009. Now in case you haven't checked the newspapers, cable TV or the Internet lately, no, he did not make any such announcement, or indicate that anything of the sort was forthcoming.

That, to some of these people, is a story in and of itself. Rather than make excuses for an event that never happened -- and frankly there was no evidence that Obama ever planned to deliver such a speech -- they try to make their failure to make an accurate prediction evidence of still another story. What secret event occurred to prevent Obama from disclosing the truth about UFOs?

I will not credit this silliness to an expression of one's imagination. That would be a compliment. I would prefer to label it another example of the Exopolitics movement's brain-dead logical faculties. Or maybe it was just wishful thinking, the belief that if they continue to claim something is about to happen, some day they will no longer be crying wolf and it will really take place.

Of course, there are other factors at play here that may or may not have some resemblance to truth. Consider, for example, the wide disparity between what a presidential candidate promises before the election and how he governs after getting into office. Sure, you could probably say the very same thing about almost any politician, but it's commonly believed that the President Elect will, one fine day, receive a visit from the heads of certain top secret agencies, and be given a hands-on education as to how things really work. The reality is seldom the same as the promise, and thus things change drastically after taking office.

This may, perhaps, be a reason why promised UFO disclosure during the Carter and Clinton administrations never took place, and didn't Reagan see a UFO?

But don't take any of this too seriously. You don't know what actually goes on behind the scenes, and I certainly do not claim to have any special knowledge to offer. More to the point, those Exopolitics people haven't a clue either. They certainly haven't demonstrated any abilities to predict what is going to happen in the UFO field. Instead, they continue to live in a fantasy world of their own creation, which is why I usually utter a silent laugh and feel pity at their latest pronouncements.

Now we at The Paracast get a bad rap for allegedly claiming that we actually know something special about the paranormal. The truth is quite the reverse. What is most amazing about the strange and unknown is what we don't know, which is why we have good reason to suspect the honesty of those who claim that they really have some answers.

Peace,
Gene Steinberg
