The Paracast Presents a Special Listener Roundtable

Special Announcement: The Paracast is heard Sundays from 2:00 AM until 5:00 AM Central Time on the GCN Radio Network and affiliates around the USA, and online across the globe via download and on-demand streaming.

Why It's Important for You to Donate to The Paracast: Although ads help cover a small part of our expenses, the income they produce is never enough to pay your humble hosts decent wages. Also, we do not receive any revenue from the ads placed on the show by our network or local stations. So we hope you're able to help fill the gap, if you can, to help us cover increasing server costs and other expenses -- or perhaps provide a little extra cash for lunch and utility bills. No contribution is too small (or too large :). It’s easy to send a donation. We have a Donate link on our home page, below the logo and audio player. There's also a Donate link on our forums, at the bottom of the sidebar on the right. Or just send your PayPal donation direct to sales (at) theparacast (dot) com. And if you’ve had a problem getting to our Donate screen, please try again. We just fixed a serious PayPal access problem, and it should work properly now.

Attention U.S. Listeners: Help Us Bring The Paracast to Your City! In the summer of 2010, The Paracast joined the GCN radio network. This represented a huge step in bringing our show to a larger, mainstream audience. But we need your help to add additional affiliates to our growing network. Please ask one of your local talk stations if they are interested in carrying The Paracast. Feel free to contact us directly with the names of programming people we might be able to contact on your behalf. We can't do this alone, and if you succeed in convincing your local station to carry the show, we'll reward you with one of our special T-shirts, and other goodies. With your help, The Paracast can grow into one of the most popular paranormal shows on the planet!

Please Visit Our Online Store: You asked, and we answered. We are now taking orders for The Official Paracast T-Shirt and an expanded collection of other specially customized merchandise. Is This the Sad Reality of the UFO Mystery?
By Gene Steinberg

Some suggest I look to the past far too often, but if you ignore the lessons of history, you’re doomed to repeat the mistakes, or so says the cliche. So it makes sense to see how we got to where we are, and why. More important, is there an endgame, a way to get to a final solution to the UFO mystery?

Certainly the prevailing opinion is that we’re being visited by extraterrestrials. That’s a viewpoint that has been popular for decades, and it appears to make sense. As astronomers discover evidence of more and more possible Earth-like planets, it stands to reason that life likely arose on many of those worlds. More than a few may even contain advanced civilizations that make us seem primitive by comparison.

That being the case, it’s only logical that some of those civilizations might have mastered the means to travel to other star systems without taking decades -- or centuries -- to reach their destinations. We like to think that Earth is in their interstellar travel guides as worthy of further exploration.

End of story.

But that doesn’t mean it has actually happened, or even that what we regard as UFOs truly represents such visits. Am I starting to sound just a little wacky to you?

Don’t forget that, except for some possible anomalies seen by astronauts during their travels, the entire UFO phenomenon is native to this planet. Sure, we are seeing what appear to be solid, metallic aircraft that displays evidence of intelligent control. But if not ET, whom? Where would such craft come from?

I suppose at least some UFOs might be test aircraft of some sort. Earth governments, particularly in the most advanced countries, need to give their new flying machines extensive testing, and expecting their presence will become part of the UFO fog gives them more room in which to maneuver. That way, the appearance of top secret airplanes, drones and other aircraft can be conveniently denied, and national secrets remain national secrets.

I expect this was particularly true during World War II, when Nazi scientists were engaged at testing all sorts of curious airborne contraptions. Remember that many of the top German scientists came to the U.S. and the Russia at the end of the war to continue such research.

Certainly the American military has loads of secret weapons and aircraft undergoing testing at different facilities in this country and, quite possibly, in countries with whom we have the appropriate mutual defense agreements. At the end of the day people who do see such test aircraft in flight may simply chalk it up to UFOs. Their existence is thus easy enough to deny without revealing what’s really going on behind the scenes.

Regardless, there is that five or ten percent residue of cases that are still regarded as unknowns, mysterious flying machines that aren’t conventional aircraft or natural phenomena. This is the core of the UFO mystery that continues to fascinate and puzzle millions, and it’s a mystery that remains without answers. Yes, we could be undergoing visits by ET, but that’s not something anyone can prove. Sure, there are people who claim to have been abducted by aliens, or are otherwise communicating with advanced beings. But that doesn’t necessarily confirm the source of those encounters, even if they are genuine. Even if those entities or beings claim to be extraterrestrial, why believe them?

So the struggle begins. People become fascinated by UFOs, perhaps because of their own sightings, or sightings from people they know. But after a few years of frustration, the failure to get a handle on what’s really going on, they move on to other interests.

Even those who are steadfast and continue to investigate UFOs mostly continue to collect sighting reports. One case may be as good as another, and there’s some photographic or trace evidence to evaluate. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you have one genuine sighting or a million. The phenomenon exists, but we don’t know the cause.

Now I suppose it’s possible ET may one day stage a massed landing and confirm their existence, for better or worse. It’s also possible that one or more Earth governments will confirm their existence and reveal guilty knowledge of possible direct interactions with aliens. There may also be a process of gradual disclosure going on, where the people are slowly exposed to the inevitable possibility that there’s intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. At the end of the day, being visited by one or more of these advanced civilizations will seem perfectly logical as humans become more and more accustomed to the idea.

If UFOs came from another dimension or parallel universe, similar situations would apply. Not so if UFOs were from Earth, flown by beings that coexist with humans, but have chosen to hide their amazing civilization from prying eyes by setting up their cities beneath the ocean or in caverns. Perhaps these beings talk to government officials and have even made a no interference agreement, so we are left with sightings, but nothing anyone can prove.

It’s also true that UFOs or apparitions that appear to resemble UFOs, have been reported throughout recorded history. In ancient times, they may have been regarded as emissaries from God, or other sorts of heavenly beings. In other words, they were interpreted in accordance with the existing culture and expectations, so today it’s all about spaceships.

But it may also be that UFOs are fated to be ever elusive. They are fated to remain a step ahead of us regardless of the level of our scientific achievement. This is the sort of cat and mouse game that we cannot win. Indeed, we may some day discover proof of advanced alien life elsewhere in the galaxy, but it may also be true that such a civilization had nothing whatever to do with UFOs. And thus the mystery continues, inevitably frustrating all efforts to come to grips with what’s really going on. future.
