This Week's Episode: On this episode T Allen Greenfield, one of Gene's closest friends, brings his right-angle to the mainstream perspective to The Paracast. Allen the is a long-time student of esoteric spirituality and Gnosticism, a study he began in 1960. A past (elected) member of the British Society for Psychical Research, the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) (from 1960), etc., he has twice been the recipient of the "UFOlogist of the Year Award" of the National UFO Conference (1972 and 1992), which ran continuously on an annual basis for 41 years. He is also a Borderland Science Research Associate (BSRA). Allen, Gene and other long-time researchers, including Rick Hilberg, were pioneers of the teen Ufology movement in the early 1960s.

William Puckett's Blog: UFO Reporting Center, Latest UFO Sightings & News.

After The Paracast -- Available exclusively for Paracast+ subscribers on December 8: In another extended segment, Special Correspondent William Puckett discusses another quartet of UFO cases. They include a vintage sighting from February, 1959 in Fort Riley, KS, where a veteran saw a flying disk with multicolored lights, a report about a triangular object and other phenomena seen in Portland, OR on October 28, 2019, a goldfish-shaped object, the size of a VW Beetle, seen in Jamestown, CA on November 19, 2019, and a report of a bright white light seen in Deforest, WI on November 22, 2019. William also joins Gene and Randall in discussions about whether the Roswell crash of 1947 might have involved a Skyhook balloon, and some observations about the case of Captain Thomas F. Mantell, who died on January 7, 1948 as the result of a crash that occurred after he attempted to pursue a UFO — or was it just a balloon!

UFOs From What?
By Gene Steinberg

Is it time to give up UFO research?

No, I am not saying that the mystery has been solved, or that chasing UFOs is a wasted pursuit. Quite the contrary.

Unfortunately, so much of the activity that has passed for research is actually all about getting the word out. Call it evangelizing to a skeptical public inundated with facts and alternative facts.

With news of the Navy’s interest in UFOs, there was the feeling that we might somehow get somewhere in figuring out what was really going on. Or just confirm what most people believed and expected about UFOs.

Or perhaps it was all about mollifying the masses. If they see that the U.S. government is on the case, then everything ought to be all right in the world. Well, if you assume people even believe what the government is telling us these days. That is something open to question.

I sometimes suggest that, if the President of the United States actually held a press briefing, or delivered a major address, and suggest or admit that we were being visited by ET, a lot of people wouldn’t believe him. It doesn’t matter who President is at the time; a millions of Americans would figure that it’s all some sort of political scam.

In all this, there’s the expectation that the authorities are on the case in one way or another. Maybe there is a Silence Group — or some variation in other countries — that’s been formed to hide the truth. Or they are still looking for evidence. Either way, what’s the point in civilian researchers getting involved in work that already duplicates ongoing studies?

Besides, governments have far more resources that most civilians. But that suggests a solution. So the likes of Jeff Bezos, Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates and others count their wealth in the tens of billions of dollars.

No less than Apple, Inc. has been holding onto billions from the profits earned through the sale of iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watch, etc. CEO Tim Cook has already pledged $1,000,000,000, chump change to them, to help resolve the growing homeless problem in California.

Now I have little doubt that, if anyone suggested to Cook, perhaps at an Apple shareholders meeting, that the company should invest in studying UFOs, he’d laugh it off or change the subject. The same would likely occur with other corporations or individuals with deep pockets.

Elon Musk and SpaceX? Not a chance.

There is, I suppose, that exclusive billionaire, Robert Bigelow, who likely knows a lot more about UFOs than he’s telling us. In addition to all his research into the subject over the years, he was awarded the task of using some $22 million in Pentagon funds to study the subject.

But it doesn’t do any good when the evidence goes in only one way.

Through all this, in large part most of what passes for research these days appears to focus on proving whether or not we are being visited by extraterrestrials. Indeed, people interested in the subject are often referred to as “ET believers” regardless of their actual opinions on the subject.

I do suppose one might regard that view as an insult even if it does apply to a large portion of the population when queried as to their views on the topic.

But let’s step back a moment: Is it all about proving a theory, or seeking an answer to a compelling and possibly word-changing mystery? I should hope the latter, that we may look with open minds upon the evidence and see where it leads us.

Of course, one would want to determine what evidence should be examined.

For MUFON and other organizations and individual researchers, it’s very much about the sighting, about what was seen as if it were an external event. I’ve said as much to Jan Harzan, MUFON’s Executive Director, suggesting that their investigators ought to look at the witness as much as what was witnessed. But their reporting methods don’t account for such things.

Harzan did say on his recent appearances on The Paracast that, if the witness volunteered information about family background and a history of other strange encounters, the investigators would record it. Otherwise, it would go unasked.

But if UFOs are, as MUFON largely maintains as a group, an external event, witnessing the physical presence of a spaceship from somewhere out there, the only concern about a witness is their credibility. Or lack thereof. Period.

Yet as most listeners to The Paracast know full well, people who report a UFO might actually have a long history of paranormal encounters among family and friends. It’s not uncommon for such experiences to begin in one’s childhood, and they often stray beyond the four walls of Ufology.

Maybe they believe they were visited by beings who kidnapped them and took them aboard what appeared to be a spaceship for a physical exam. Or perhaps they met a strange human or humanoid being in the desert somewhere, one who exhorted them to spread good wishes of peace and brotherhood to their fellow humans.

“Fix the environment,” they say. “Stop the wars!” All worthy goals to be sure, but the people allegedly contacted were, prior to such encounters, virtual unknowns. While some might gain their 15 minutes of fame, it doesn’t mean that they can influence anyone beyond a small circle of believers.

But if our visitors truly want to spread an important message to humans, they could surely find a better way. What about staging a mass landing, in the spirit of the classic sci-fi movie, “The Day the Earth Stood Still”?

But wait a minute! In the original 1951 film, the alien visitor, Klaatu, is shot by a panic-stricken soldier when he attempts to remove something from his uniform.

If UFOs are physical craft, it would make sense to be wary of a species with a penchant for tribal warfare among themselves. In the old days, there were even orders to pilots to attempt to shoot down a UFO when it was in their sights.

But assumptions won’t guide us to a solution. Without an open mind, willing to take the quest to wherever it leads, we may remain stuck in neutral!
