UFOs Over Nuclear Weapons Facilities Explored on The Paracast

Special Announcement:
The Paracast is heard Sundays from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM (Central Time) on the GCN radio network.

Here's How You Can Help The Paracast:
Although ads help cover a small part of our expenses, the income they produce is never enough. Also, we do not receive any revenue from the ads placed on the show by our network. So we hope you'll be willing to help fill the gap if you can to help us cover increasing server costs and other expenses -- or perhaps provide a little extra cash for lunch. No contribution is too small (or too large :). We have a Donate link on our home page, below the logo and audio player. There's also a Donate link on our forums, right below our logo. Or just send your PayPal donation direct to sales (at) theparacast (dot) com.

Attention U.S. Listeners: Help Us Bring The Paracast to Your City!
Last summer, The Paracast joined the GCN radio network. This represented a huge step in bringing our show to a larger, mainstream audience. But we need your help to add additional affiliates to our growing network. Please ask one of your local talk stations if they are interested in carrying The Paracast. Feel free to contact us directly with the names of programming people we might be able to contact on your behalf. We can't do this alone, and if you succeed in convincing your local station to carry the show, we'll reward you with one of our special T-shirts, and other goodies. With your help, The Paracast can grow into one of the most popular paranormal shows on the planet!

You Can Now Order The Official Paracast T-Shirt:
You asked, and we answered. We are now taking orders for The Official Paracast T-Shirt and a collection of other specially customized merchandise. This Week's Episode:
Gene and Chris present a return visit by UFO investigator Robert Hastings, author of “UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites,” which covers sightings of UFOs in and around nuclear weapons facilities around the world. We’ll also present listener questions about his research.

The Need for More Generalists in Paranormal Research

By Gene Steinberg

One of our most informed researchers is Robert Hastings, who has, for over 30 years, investigated reports of UFOs in the vicinity of nuclear weapons facilities. Certainly this is a worthy project, buttressed by the fact that such sightings have continued through the years, and you have to wonder about the national security implications of such events.

Why such installations appear to attract UFOs would make perfect sense if you believe that these craft are piloted by intelligent beings from other worlds. They would surely be curious about the state of our planet’s technology, and even whether we are in danger of destroying ourselves in a nuclear catastrophe.

What’s more, the evidence of possible interference with the onboard computers that run nuclear missiles indicates that they are either testing the systems, or are accidentally generating some sort of electromagnetic radiation that somehow interferes with their operation.

Why these effects occur may depend on the motivations of our supposed visitors. If they hope to eventually invite us to join a galactic federation of advanced civilizations, they’d want to be assured that we are trying to give up our primitive tribal war games, and, perhaps, stop trying to wreck our environment. A more depressing view has it that the aliens are ultimately planning to take over, and thus need to know the specifics about our weaponry.

Or maybe we have tunnel vision here. There are, of course, numerous sightings in areas other than weapons and other military installations. We’ve seen UFOs over power plants, or even flying over cities and deserts. Some of the reports indicate the presence of alien beings; others are little more than lights in the sky.

Now some UFO investigators will, like Mr. Hastings, focus on specific classes of cases. Certainly there’s a wealth of information to be mined from these reports, and it’s good to see that work continuing.

On the other hand, you have to wonder whether there’s already enough information out there to begin to attempt to reach some sensible conclusions about what it all means. But that raises yet another question, which is the boundaries of that evidence, and here’s where the rubber meets the road.

One problem is that there’s no universal or near-universal agreement as to what evidence should be considered. Many will confine themselves strictly to UFO cases, strange objects seen in the sky or on the ground. But quite often there are other unusual events in and around the places where UFOs are seen, such as strange creatures, or perhaps the presence of what are regarded as pure paranormal events, such as reports of ghosts or poltergeists.

But if you regard UFOs as a single phenomenon, unrelated to other events, then you won’t consider how those other reports might impact your conclusions. If you believe UFOs are spaceships, maybe it doesn’t make sense to consider anything else. They can’t possibly be related, and that, as they say, is that.

At the same time, you have the possible evidence of so-called “window” or “portal” areas around the world, which seem to attract a higher number of unusual events. It’s not just UFOs, but all the other reports of unusual happenings. But if they are unrelated, why would this be so?

More to the point, how can you possibly know if there’s any correlation unless you are willing to consider all the evidence, not just an arbitrary subset of that evidence? But then what are the boundaries?

This has been an ongoing argument in the paranormal field, precisely what events ought to be considered in trying to understand the causes of the so-called UFO mystery, and what might be considered separate events that shouldn’t be included.

But it’s not easy to define the boundaries. Quite often investigators, book authors, and others involved in assembling information on these cases, will question witnesses about specific types of events, but never ask if any other strange things are happening in their lives. Perhaps it’s time to spend a little more time considering the overall picture, whatever it is, rather than continue to specialize. The truth may be out there, but we first have to consider the scope of that truth, and that’s an even more difficult question to attempt to answer.
