Making Wrong Predictions About UFOs
By Gene Steinberg

Ever since UFOs became a significant part of our pop culture in the late 1940s, there have been ongoing predictions as to when the truth will be found. Or perhaps when those who know the truth will disclose what they knew and when they knew it.

At the same time, not a single one of those predictions has come to pass, not one!

Let’s go back to the 1950s, when the concept of a working Silence Group controlling the truth about flying saucers – which later became known as UFOs – first arose in books from Major Donald E. Keyhoe and others. To their way of thinking, the authorities in the U.S. held the cards, and they only needed sufficient public and congressional pressure to tell all.

If you read Keyhoe’s books of that period, it appeared he had a peculiarly naïve belief that legislators were honest brokers, that they would, if prodded sufficiently by their constituents, do whatever was necessary to serve the public good and find out what was really happenig. This was before we regarded elected representatives as generally bought and paid for by corporate interests.

Nothing came of this until, in the late 1960s, Congressman Gerald Ford demanded an investigation in the wake of an ongoing UFO flap in Michigan. As you might recall, Dr. J. Allen Hynek, then an astronomy advisor to the government’s supposed UFO investigative body, Project Blue Book, labeled one of the most compelling sighting reports, from Dexter, Michigan, as probably caused by “swamp gas.”

That statement dogged Hynek for the rest of his life, even after admitting he was too quick – and too pressured – to make a guess as to what was responsible for that UFO event. In any case, the wish for congressional hearings was granted, thus resulting in the creation of the Condon Committee.

Unfortunately, the committee’s efforts, which resulted in the Condon Report, did little to help resolve the controversy. Although the document contained a fair number of intriguing UFO cases, the conclusion that there was nothing to any of it was pretty much regarded as a whitewash.

In the wake of the publication of the Condon Report, Project Blue Book was shuttered, thus closing the door on any public investigation of UFOs. Congressman Ford didn’t press the issue further then, or even after becoming Vice President and then President after Richard Nixon resigned.

This didn’t stop the UFOs from doing their thing. Major UFO flaps were reported in the 1970s, almost as if the forces behind those flying craft were mocking the U.S. government and the conclusion that nothing strange was going on. Sightings have ebbed and flowed through the years, and continue to this very day.

From time to time, people who claim to know what’s happening inside the U.S. government insist that investigations are still going on, only under the shield of Above Top Secret classifications. Others suggest that there may even be disclosure at a particular point in time, but every single one of those predictions has failed to come to pass. None of this bodes well for the credibility of members of the Exopolitics movement and others who continue to claim that the truth is not only out there, but that we are being prepared for revelations about the presence of ET on our planet.

Now asking for disclosure is not strictly a demand from extremists. Some very serious people have also been clamoring for the release of all documents about UFOs that do not threaten national security. While loads of sighting reports have been released by foreign governments over the years, little in the way of a Smoking Gun has been found. If they know more, we cannot find the evidence. We just suspect that something has been left on the table.

It may well be that nobody in any capacity in any government truly knows what’s really going on. So long as there’s no evidence that UFOs present a threat to the national security of any nation, perhaps they don’t care. Out of sight, out of mind.

But such disinterest isn’t going to help get to the bottom of this mystery. It may also be that the final answer remains out of our hands, and any significant revelation may be the responsibility of the force behind the UFOs. Perhaps they don’t even care.
