Believed to be extinct . . . yet the Ocean(s) cover 3/4ths of the earth, and we've hardly combed through it all.
 
I was taught in an undergraduate biology class the average lifespan of any given species is 5 million years (we are at 2.4 million, BTW). At 390 million years old a contemporary sea scorpion is highly unlikely. However, there are modern examples of extremely successful lineages. The coelacanth comes to mind.
