timbrigham.jpgDr. Tim Brigham obtained his PhD in Psychology from the University of Georgia, and is a former professor of psychology. He is a contributing member of the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU) and has presented to the Society for Scientific Exploration (SSE). He grew up in Gulf Breeze, FL during a major wave of UFO sightings, which began his lifelong interest in the phenomenon. He now works as an educator in the biomedical industry.

Brigham became close friends with legendary flying saucer' writer and gonzo jurnalist James W. (Jim) Moseley. Jim was a fixture in the 'Saucer scene' nearly since it began, as Editor of Saucer News magazine; in later years it morphed into Saucer Smear and was the longest running saucer zine in the known universe, known for its ironic and gonzo approach. Brigham was appointed to Contributing Editor in Smear's final years (purely a sign of love from Jim, of course), and previously had been appointed a member of Moseley's 'National UFO Convention permanent organizing committee' or POG, as we called it.

Tim contributed an introduction to a reprint of Moseley's mythical pulp book "UFO Crash Secrets at Wright Patterson Air Force Base," for which all credit and blame is due Timothy Green Beckley, And of course, to Gray Barker.

In his lecture titled "Lecture: UFOs as Agents of Psychic Transformation," Dr. Brigham discusses the fact that witnesses often report long term, life altering effects of UFO encounters, yet relatively little attention from social scientists has been paid to the experiential and transformative nature of such experiences and their direct impact on human consciousness. What can psychology, particularly Jungian psychology, tell us about the meaning of the UFO experience? We will examine the psychic dynamics involved in the experience of high strangeness, and discuss how investigation of the social and psychological context of the witness can illuminate the meaning behind such encounters. Both negative and positive psychological effects on witnesses will be discussed, as will characteristics that psychological research has indicated many experiences share. Dr. Brigham will also discuss hypnotic regression as a tool of memory retrieval, and suggest alternatives to benefit both witnesses and investigators.

Cohost this week: Curt Collins.
