Paranormal Adept
I see it as a matter of not if, but when, life saving and life extending state of the art medicine becomes incredibly advanced but also financially out of reach for all but the wealthiest of earth's population.

I'm trying to imagine how this might play out. How will the average person, including even the middle classes, feel as they watch the old and sick among our elites emerge from clinics at remote locations radiantly healthy, vibrant, and ready to regain the reins of power, while most of us have little to look forward to but creeping disability and death?

Could this become no more than business as usual for future humanity ? Or will the end result be more animosity in an already turbulent world ?

I conject that animosity will be jumped right over into torch/pitchfork wielding mobs attempting to stake the vampires, but in actuality running into the crosshairs of the mercenary bodyguards of the elites (bullets too).
If it's any consolation, the mercenaries will turn on their paymasters, and no doubt lose the technologies in their petty scrabbling for warlord supremacy:eek:

It's pretty much already like Elysium already. There are a new class of drugs called PD inhibitors, and other scientific immunotherapies which have shown great results in cancer treatment but are being held up by red tape. But if you have the money for a private clinic in Japan or Mexico you can pay anywhere between $40,000 and $140,000 per treatment. Meanwhile the rest get death by chemo and radiation. Plus there was a recent show on CBC where they talked about the growing number of private labs ( as in really private hired by multimillionaires to setup private labs for private research and treatment ). Right now we need to get on one of the PD treatment programs. The medicine exists ( obviously ), but we can't get access to it, and Canada isn't quite a third world country yet.
