Terry Matheson, Professor Emeritus, English Department of the University of Saskatchewan, is the author of "Alien Abductions: Creating a Modern Phenomenon." In this book, Matheson uses narrative theory to trace the development of abduction accounts into a fully realized postmodern mythology.
Mac Tonnies' review of the book was mostly favorable:
UFO-Blog.com Forum - Mac Tonnies Review: (Book)
As Tonnies indicates, Matheson's skeptical account is so committed to the psychosocial explanation that it can be occasionally reductionist, but it stands as a powerful critique of the abduction literature. He might make a good guest.
Jodi Dean is Professor of Political Science at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Her book "Aliens in America: Conspiracy Cultures from Outerspace to Cyberspace" applies postmodern literary theory to abduction narratives to contextualize them culturally and historically. Like Matheson, she is reluctant to attribute veridicality to abduction narratives, but she never adopts the flippant and dismissive tone of a Susan Clancy. She'd be an articulate and entertaining guest.
