In other words, we live in a deterministic universe ...
It seems that there is room for both randomness and change. If that is true, then our particular universe is not entirely deterministic, but it does seem to be the case that the level of determinism increases proportionally to the scale at which we measure.
... and our free will is just a convincing illusion?
If free will can be thought of as making conscious choices that drive our actions, then it is most definitely an illusion.

Exactly... hard to reconcile QM and determinism. Unless you're willing to say that QM itself is an illusion. Things like the delayed choice experiment would be fairly hard for the universe to fake.
