    Welcome to the paracoast!

If Gene or David ever had a moment of weakness in thinking that Microsoft might not be so bad, I think I've found something that will solidify their current feelings towards the company. Check out what Windows media player came up with when I opened up the latest episode ;): Guys, do you...

    Rush Limbaugh !

I think Bill was always more into educating than entertaining. One really has to appreciate the level of contempt he held for the powers that be to really understand his use of such visceral language. IMHO I think he felt he had such a different perception of the world, and that so many...

    Computer (Router) Help

So is the laptop using the wireless card able to connect to the network at all? If it is a situation where all wired links work fine but none of the wireless work, then more often than not the issue is that the security protocol that the router is using is either: 1) Not set up on the devices...

    Computer (Router) Help

I take it you can see the xbox from the computer on the same network? The fact that you are getting lan access would presume this. In which case you could log into your router configuration through your browser if you type in an IP in the address bar, it will be something like 192.168.0.1, your...

    Musical Interests

Yeah its a spalted maple top on a mahogany body, the pickups are aptly named 'monster-pole' alnicos. I wanted something wildly different to my strat and I think it fits the bill nicely.

    Musical Interests

This looks like a good a place as any to park a couple of guitar porn pics of my spear gladius I picked up today :D (p.s. sorry bout low quality, my phone camera is rubbish) And the money shot...

    Security certificate errors

External javascripts can cause this sometimes. The forum has a few at the bottom of the page so might well have been one of those had gone a bit dodgy. Disabling javascript on the browser is a quick way of seeing if that is the source of the issue.

A satisfying example of a debunker 'getting it'

I dunno, I think there's a lot to be said for making the distinction between the concepts of 'fundamentalist believers vs fundamentalist debunkers' and 'open minded vs closed minded'. The former group, either side of the argument think they have all the answers. While the latter group, not...

August 30th Episode with Karl Mamer

What were you saying about circular logic? When I was a teenager I knew that I was naive about a lot of things, though I also knew I wasn't a stupid person either. However, being a teenager, I was never short of a smart alec answer to everything. But then I grew up... To paraphrase a favourite...

August 30th Episode with Karl Mamer

Re editor's note: I think the problem with yet another rebuttal is that in order to define oneself as a skeptic you are having to marginalize everyone who disagrees with as 'believers', 'ones who propose an ETH'. It is patronising to say the least. If you have such courage in your convictions...

    Project Camelot vs. Jeff Rense

Well personally I think Rense is just moody, probably still smarting from that time Bill Knell mistook him for a poodle and tried to flog him off as a thoroughbred

    Objectionable ads

Well I try never to miss an opportunity to learn something new (never know when you might need it in this game). So I've been doing some reading up on Mac development, with some interesting info I found along the way. Just for clarity, (me being the pedantic programmer), but XCode isn't...

    Project Camelot vs. Jeff Rense

Are we sure he is talking about project camelot? :D I thought that website was developed through a process of head butting a keyboard whilst stabbing oneself in the ear with a pencil. Mind you I suppose Jeff Rense is one of the few people in the world that can compare his website to a '404 page...

    Objectionable ads

Well again its all about your needs. For instance by the same token if I was using Windows systems exclusively, I could write one piece of code in C# that would compile on a desktop app, website, Windows mobile app, Windows mobile website, web service etc etc with between little and no need to...

    Objectionable ads

In Microsoft's defence one good application I would mention is Visual Studios, and the .Net framework therein. They might be poor at writing general use applications themselves but their development environments are top notch in their own right. I've not used Macs much myself, other than...

August 30th Episode with Karl Mamer

Well I had a look over it. Firstly I think his concept of 'I'll believe it when I see it' is more accurately put as 'I'll believe it when Wikipedia tells me its so'. The biggest problem I would have with his retort would be his habit of twisting a story, categorizing anyone who questions...

    Amazing Underground Temples in Italy

When I first read the blurb I was fully expecting the typical underground temple images you see from around the world, which to the normal man on the street usually looks like a cave with a bit of stone that is purported to be an alter etc etc. But damn! Talk about a work of art, nice find.

August 30th Episode with Karl Mamer

Well I think the long and short of it is he just isn't very intelligent, certainly no where near as intelligent as he probably thinks he is. Citing weak psychological examples, explaining the misinterpretation of Ockham's Razor (then going on to use the misinterpreted form to justify his...

    Puzzled

Found a site (http://www.chemeurope.com/lexikon/e/Heat_death_of_the_universe/) which is a time-line on heat death, the last section of which is pretty much the closest elucidation I could find on my posit above about quantum mechanics: So I think we were kind of on the right track but the bit...

Bill would give president emergency control of Internet

I'm pretty sure proxy is standard household terminology in places like China and Iran these days.
