Legitimacy should be the most important aspect of the research. If you skip that part, what's the point of looking into it in the first place? How many times have we seen cases where researchers just blatantly ignore that step, and when you point it out people get immediately branded as a "debunker"? It's not even that the person might be lying, but research has shown over and over again that no, you do NOT in fact know what you see.

How can you even start to theorize about motives when you have no idea what did or didn't happen?

It all boils down to my signature, really. ;)
