It's a sure thing that many of you are wondering just why I would ask such a question when the modern UFO era began over 60 years ago, in 1947. Literally thousands of UFO research organizations have come and gone and various governments have also entered the fray.

So you'd naturally think that investigating the phenomenon has been an ongoing process. I'd agree with that, in part, but it's unfortunate that far too many people and organizations in this field have put the cart before the horse and assumed facts about UFOs that have never actually been confirmed.

What am I talking about?

Well, I'm not a betting man but I'm willing to bet that most of you believe that UFOs are manifestations of ET, visitors from another planet, no doubt in another star system. It doesn't really matter how they got here, or the level of their technological achievement. They are here, and we have to, depending on your point of view, deal with the presence of the Space Brothers or whatever they happen to be.

That, of course, is part and parcel of the so-called Exopolitics movement, which, according to the preamble at one of the sites devotees frequent, "is the study of the key individuals, political institutions and processes associated with extraterrestrial life."

The problem with all this is that we really don?t know who or what ET is, really, nor is there iron-clad evidence of their presence on Earth. So to say that the Exopolitics people have their heads in the clouds is an understatement.

But that doesn't mean I'm a UFO debunker. Far from it. There are thousands upon thousands of well-authenticated cases, often involving trained observers, such as the military, police officers and scientists, and sometimes accompanied by photos, simultaneous radar observations and trace evidence. It's certainly crystal clear that something strange is going on.

Certainly all those abduction cases appear to point to some sort of alien presence on this planet, but the actual source of those experiences is certainly unproven. Strange, yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean ET.

The more responsible UFO organizations have collected a wealth of data, and none of those ?house? debunkers have a prayer of explaining them in any logical fashion. That, however, doesn't necessarily take us from here to there. It's but a first step towards understanding the unknown, and where that journey will really take us is, as yet, anyone's guess.

For now, my best advice is to remain skeptical, and be especially wary of people who claim to know the truth. That's sure evidence of precisely the reverse.

Peace,
Gene Steinberg
