Should We Give Up on the ETH?

This is a world filled with acronyms, so I suppose our little collection isn?t so bad. In case you?re wondering, ETH is short for Extraterrestrial Hypothesis, the popular belief that some UFOs are the result of visits by beings from another planet. It is without doubt the most popular point of view, and I suspect most of you would agree with the theory.

As regular readers know, though, David and I do seriously consider the ETH, but we also look seriously at other possibilities as well. Perhaps, as suggested in the science fiction TV series, ?The 4400,? we have seen the UFOs and they are us. Well, us as in from some future time, coming back here to change history before, I suppose, it changes them in some unsavory ways.

The problem with time travel is the so-called paradox science fiction writers used to present as a plot device, that if you return to a previous era and accidentally change something, your own timeframe is impacted as well. Certainly the idea was used on occasion in ?Star Trek.?

However, it?s a simplistic idea. What if the change you make to the past is a prerequisite for the future in which you exist? And around and around it goes. Or perhaps when you alter a past event even in the most subtle way, you thereby create an alternate pathway or dimension where the consequences of that change are played out.

In any case, another theory has it that UFOs are from that alternate reality, perhaps one that occupies the same space as our own, but is separated in some imperceptible fashion. Traveling from one reality or dimension to another is a matter of pressing the right switch ? changing the dimensional channel if you will.

Any of these theories might account for all or most of the known UFO evidence, and it is certainly possible that all the theories are equally correct. Or perhaps none of them, because still another theory has it that we are remaking the UFO experience to our own expectations. What we witness is so alien, we have to interpret the apparition in a way we understand, and nowadays that?s an alien space craft. In ancient times, substitute emissaries from the Gods. Same critters, different perceptions.

What makes this all the more complex is that all of these theories might apply with equal validity, and that's the strangest prospect of all!
