Was Zeus a bigamist?

Well, the Oracle of Dodoni proclaimed that Zeus was married to Dione and not to Hera as everybody else in Ancient Greece believed. The history of the place is that the initial tribes inhabiting the area around 5000 years ago used to worship the goddess mother earth by celebrating around an oak tree, I believe it was. Then later it evolved to a complex of buildings and temples, including one astonishing 17.000 seat amphitheater. The oracle ceased to exist in when in 391, during the reign of Emperor Theodosios I, someone cut down down the sacred tree and the temple was abandoned and on its ruins a Christian basilica was built.
So this Dione was what the Greek tribes that invaded later the valley of Dodoni called the Earth goddess and they married her to Zeus. Strangely enough, another name for Zeus is Dias, so this Dione must have been kind like his female alter ego or something. One thing is for certain, Zeus was all too human; he caused much grieve to Hera his sister and wife. And those ancient immortal gods had no incest taboo at all. Wonderful thing ancient Greek or better Hellenic mythology.

but what GOVERNMENT did the deities have to answer to?
as in: in the united states where i am native to -- people can cohabitate, have children and die -- and never GET married.

they don't have to. if they do, however, the government, the system ascribe to them special status, privileges...

but if zeus and hera MATED -- well, they were "gods" exalted beings far beyond the people or their religion. it could well be that the rules made to dominate humans on this planet maybe have different meanings to divine beings, to gods.

maybe. what we know of those beings we know from writers
how can we know for sure what gods have done? it's the same for monotheisms: just because generations say Moses wrote so and so, and Mohammed wrote such and such, how do we KNOW? what i know of religious types is that they have been caught lying to large groups of people JUST TO GET MONEY.

did the gods invent marriage? is the kingdom and queendom of heavin within, or without?

this was a decent question. who cares if it's cut and pasted? i gotta do some posting, i don't wanna get zero banned.

What gives?

to kandinsky:
what gives with YOU? so what if the question is cut and pasted from elsewhere? an honest intellect would have fielded the question and attempted an answer instead of being a source nazi.

to newsday: i'd like to be friends. but i don't CARE if you add me to the buddy list at this place, that really doesn't matter. but based on the strength of the question 'was zeus a bigamist' -- of course, 'bigamy' is a term created by the worldly law creators...simple humans created laws controlling what sorts of relationships people could have to create government, not gods or divine beings...

such laws are there to enforce existing systems of rule, and to create societies which are obedient to rulers...not about gods, except only in the form of lip-service.

now, "zeus" may have been INCESTUOUS, however, and divine incest may have been a strange factor creating, even bizzare and unexplainable quirks in human nature.

notice our world of today. religion is said to be at such a focal point -- yet in all the regions that militarily force religious views, where are the miracles, where is the holiness?

it's no where, the idea even is an invitation for derisive, stupid laughter.

it seems like there is a sort of evil, dishonest Atheism at play -- not an honest atheism that truly percieves no God or Gods, but a dishonest, cunning atheism that knows that there is something divine in the universe and seeks to block it out, lie about it, an intellectual force...

...that most often is involved in government, military industrial opinion, that has an atheistic view that it dishonestly presents, but more often is lying consciously, as if it wanted to "steal god's thunder," wanted to gain by way of deception, power over others. interesting thread to start...

and as we discuss all these issues of UFOs, and Nazis, and lies told about extraterrestrialism coinciding with the seeming end of the war against Hitler...

questions about earth's history of gods, many gods or one gods, and religion are worth asking and philosophizing about since our governments are stonewalling...

obviously with all their compulsive denial since 1947, that key year, there is A GREAT DEAL THAT WE ARE ALL BEING INSTITUTIONALLY LIED TO ABOUT...

they are fascists, eventually rooting them out will make life BETTER for the majority of human beings....

in other words, the legendary zeus was said to be married to the legendary hera.

was there a marriage liscense involved with that union? jeepers, no.

was there a justice of the peace, were there forms to be filled out? no. all that crap was invented later, by STOOPIT mortal HUMANS. merehumes came up with all that wastepaper to keep annoyed, bitter spice from just LEAVING unappealing situatons.

so zeus might have created the universe in lovemaking with hera, hera might have given birth to the milky way and the many stars and planets after that original lovemaking -- that's as believable as that seven - days stuff from the boring monotheists... but was there a RING on hera's finger?

where did zeus buy hera her wedding ring?
at the wedding, was there cake? did little hermes carry a ring? maybe aphrodite was the ring bearer.

that legendary zeus is famous for being involved with sex with all sorts of beings besides hera is part of the collection of legends of those pre-monotheist divinities that we, today have at our disposal.

further questioning into these ancient deities is probably good. the monotheists and their one god might not have ever existed, ALL monotheist religions might actually be dirty TRICKS created just to enslave people. because they have no way to prove that any of their one gods are more real than the legendary deities of hellas...

Here's a question. Did Hera have screaming orgazms? did the universe vibrate with the shouts of Hera's pleasure so intensely that Lord Hades down in the fiery pits grew JEALOUS?

since no one had recording equipment, there is no mundane way of being sure. likewise they had no marriage liscense, no concept of BIGAMY although famously hera was jealous because legendary Zeus did all kinds of stuff, artists of antiquity inform us, to have sex besides having sex with Hera.

ONE LEGEND actually says that Hera was CHAINED TO A MOUNTAIN TOP while Zeus went about having sex with as many things as possible. So maybe they didn't have marriage liscences, but Zeus was able to get CHAINS, i guess, maybe Haephestus was busy creating the first Hardware Stores of antiquity.

the triple goddess of the ancient greeks is triune.

so that kore IS demeter IS artemis...
it's a triune mystery similar to the 'father-son-holy spirit' trinity of monotheist christians...which, since they have a trinity, have more than one inside one, which is confusion itself and really should be left to the discordians to figure out -- just like the Vedic Indian 'creator-preserver-destroyer' philosophy who are again, three things in one thing -- so that the vedic philosophy is actually a MONOTHEISM, since all their Gods are the same, basically...

---

leading to Hitler being the insane liar that we know, and that Glen Beck loves.

----

leading to the idea that if Dione was another NAME for Hera, perhaps just worshipped differently by different mortals in a different region in that ancient, ancient world...

then they BOTH were probably mad when Zeus changed his form to resemble DIANA so that lesbian god Callisto would have sex with HIM. which must have been annoying to Callisto when she figured out what she'd really been having sex with...suffering Sappho! Hit syndicated television shows have been produced over less.

Obviously Zeus was a Mormon. Duh. The Mormons didn't outlaw polygamy until long after Zeus had retired and even then only because Congress forced them to if they wanted statehood for Utah.

1. Hera was also Zeus' sister but then there weren't a lot of potential spouses for him to choose from!!

2. Zeus was also married to Methis (the mother of Athena) before he married Hera but then he swallowed his first wife, so... Bigamy is the least of his legal troubles. lol.

3. Of course Hera and Zeus "mated" at least once -- he fathered Hephaestos by her.

4. I forget the exact count but one scholar's attempts to collate all the extramarital affairs of Zeus found roughly 148. (Some of whom have Jovian moons named after them!!) And of these only a handful actually had Zeus himself being in human form.

5. Zeus wasn't exactly born from the greatest intellectual genealogy -- His father couldn't tell the difference between a baby and a rock!

DNS. Zeus a mormon!! lol -- good one.
