The U.S. has nearly 400 million guns in the hands of civilians. The largest country, India, reports slightly over 71 million, the number two country, China, has over 49 million. Something is clearly wrong here.

Did you check the statistic from wikipedia?

Problem in the US is unregistered firearms. We have here more registered guns than you, 1.5 million licensed guns in a nation of 6 million people.
They are really commonplace here, hunting is popular sport. Its not the guns, its the criminals. However criminal stuff is in the increase here as well.
