Fabulous. Reminds me of the stuff I was doing with my old band back in the late 80s-early 90s  .

After recently posting a King Crimson favorite ( here ), I ran across this rather interesting resource called Elephant talk: searchable archives.

Found that here: Elephant Talk, also affectionately known as ET, was originally a digest-format newsletter distributed by electronic mail, and available on the WWW. It was started in August 1991 by its editor and moderator ... ( More )

Judge: Lynyrd Skynyrd Film Violates 3-Decade-Old Agreement

NEW YORK — A film created with help from a former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer violates a "blood oath" surviving band members made not to exploit the band's name and history, a judge concluded as he blocked its distribution, siding with a surviving member of the 1970s pioneering southern rock group and the widow of its lead singer. I've been re-working through some of the old Punk stuff that was big during my high school days. Suicidal Tendencies, Dead Kennedys, Dead Milkmen...

Man, "Institutionalized" still makes me laugh when they argue about a Pepsi.

It's funny to me that I still get regular notifications for this thread four years after making the initial post. It's the only post in any forum I've ever used for which that's the case.

    It's fun.

Here's a band I was recently introduced to who (sometimes) play with themes of fantasy, science-fiction, and the supernatural.

You are welcome! I'm 46 but have been a fan since "True Men Don't Kill Coyote's". Behind The Sun is a lesser known song (but one of their best IMO) from the RHCP's. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Is it ok to post your own sh*t?

This is a little instrumental project of mine. A little bit on the heavier side, but probably wouldn't classify as "metal" (at least not modern metal...)
    I dunno...

Anyway, the track previewed in the vid isn't available yet, but will probably be in cyberspace (Spotify, iTunes, etc.) within a week or so.

:) Well after listening to the drummer of Stray Cats on Dean Delray's awesome podcast, I revisited a couple of songs I'd sort of heard before.. I gotta look deeper, because I don't really know much about them, but I kinda liked this: (I know... go for the most well known track...but I kinda dig the vibe)

I love the vibe on Zappa's solo albums like Hot Rats, Waka-Jawaka and the Grand Wazoo

    Stray Cats are cool
No question Zappa was a mad musical genius, and I know this is heretical, but I never liked his "vibe", except maybe Joe's Garage. When it comes to drummers, Peart tends to rise to the top along with a handful of cream of the crop percussionists. I like this clip where Letterman calls Rush his ( Peart's ) band.

Another drummer who has long been a personal favorite is Billy Cobham. I got to see him a few times in the 1970s with John McLaughlin, once with Santana, and he was always incredible.

There used to be a good video out there of Cobham playing One Word with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, but I cannot now find it. Here he is playing some jazz with Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter in the 1980s. I love his interplay with Hancock in this. Looks like Hancock is getting a kick out of it too.

Absolutely! Cobham is excellent and I've got some of his solo stuff on LP and CD. I have an old Mahavishnu LPs ( Birds Of Fire ) with him on it too. Seeing him live ( especially back in his prime ) would be a total bonus, but I've never had the opportunity :(. This is the first solo album of his I got .
