Many who tred at dusk or dawn, upon the vast flat expanses that are the Lincolnshire Wolds, have often spoken of hearing a Lancasters, or two... in the distance... perhaps trying to make for home...
However, as with all other R.A.F. Heavy Bombers, and with the exception of a solitary preserved Lancaster, none no longer fly. So what exactly could be the explanation for such undeniable sounds in such a place with such an attachment to many dozens of long since vanished airfields, and not least thousands of aircrew who never returned....?

There are similar such tales in Kent- all be it of ghostly fighter aircraft.. possibly from the Battle of Britain era?

Regards,
