Catching Up with Nick Redfern: Ask Away!

There's rarely a time when there's not a recent book from Nick Redfern to talk about.

As much as we want to avoid bringing up Roswell, Nick has reopened the subject with "The Roswell UFO Conspiracy: Exposing a Shocking And Sinister Secret."

It's the long-awaited sequel to one of his previous thought-provoking volumes, "Body Snatchers in the Desert: The Horrible Truth at the Heart of the Roswell Story"

According to the description for his new book, "In early July 1947, something crashed outside of Roswell, New Mexico. It was not an alien spaceship, as so many believe. Rather, it was one of a handful of definitively military vehicles that were secretly test-flown in various parts of the Land of Enchantment. All of the flights ended in disaster, and particularly so for the people who were on-board the craft. Cover-stories concerning wrecked flying saucers and dead aliens were carefully created. The stories were then spread by those tasked with hiding the dark truth. The far more disturbing picture of what really happened near Roswell was cloaked for years. In fact, for decades. Until now…"

While Nick's original theory about a terrestrial cause for Roswell was highly disputed, things have changed. Kevin D. Randle's recent book, "Roswell in the 21st Century," based on a thorough reinvestigation of the case, makes it clear that previous assumptions don't hold water. There's a serious lack of definitive evidence about the presence of alien bodies, or even that the crashed object was a spaceship. So what really happened?

Nick - I was recently watching a TV show here in the UK about astronomy and space travel. The subject of UFOs was raised and was met with smirks and glazed eyes.

Nick, the following is a list of USAAF aviation accidents, just for the month of July of 1947. Sorry it's so long. Every day there is some kind of aviation accident, and on most days there are more than one. This doesn't include naval aviation either.

So, the point is, instead of trying to hide a top-secret aviation accident as a flying saucer crash, which would presumably generate all the more interest, why wouldn't the military authorities just say the test vehicle was some known aircraft that crashed, like a B-29, or a B-26, or a C-54 with passengers, etc.?

In this list of accidents an XF-12 very high performance four-engined recon aircraft is listed.

Dear Gene and Chris, please ask Mr Redfern:

I once saw what I believe was a Cryptid Dog (Devil dog or similar) on Cannock Chase (Staffordshire UK), and a few years ago I read online about a vaguely similar sounding creature being seen in the United States (in New England I think) and this creature was referred to as a "Kanuke" or "Canook" however the website I read this on no longer exists, but I did ask "Paul Eno" who was on the Paracast recently and he said that it sounded familiar. It maybe me creating a folk etymology but the similarity in the name Cannock and Canook/Kanuke is striking. So has Nick ever heard of this?
I also wonder if the Staffordshire Bull terrier (An ancestor of the American Pit Bull Terrier) could in some way be part of the Legend? Maybe an escaped or released feral Hybrid? (I wonder this because the Bull Dog is the result of intensive selective breeding and and this could have resulted in some kind of "Devil Dog" being created accidentally.) But their are problems with that idea because how would it survive for so long without a breeding population? and also from the reports I have read and my own experience these "Devil Dogs" are invariably seen on their own and not in a "pack" which in my opinion would be strange for a "Dog" because they are much better equipped to survive in a social group than on their own. This packing behaviour can be seen in feral/stray dogs.


I have also heard that a bit like "Mothman" seeing a Devil Dog has been interpreted as a sign of impending doom or ill fate, which I from a personal point of view I hope is not true! but it does remind me about last weeks episode featuring the Crypto Kid:

Regarding the Roswell Crash "Bodies" I have been told many different things about them, and I understand that their very existence is disputed but: one thing that disturbed me is the allegation that the bodies were those of individuals that had been victims of some kind of horrendous genetic experimentation to create "super pilots" now as crazy as that sounds and although I don't believe it to be the case, I do know that there were all sorts of utterly inhumane, barbaric and heinous "Genetic programmes" inflicted on people during the middle part of the twentieth century. How is this relevant to last week? well if Bigfoot is a Cryptid and also a Primate Hominid, by the same logic, if the Human Genetic angle of ET is correct then "Aliens" like Greys would be "Cryptids".

How does Mr Redfern define the word Cryptid? and also during his researches into such creatures has he ever read anything that he was disturbed by and wouldn't be happy to discuss with a younger person such as Mr Schneider? (just yes or no rather than explain in all gory detail )
