Psychedelic Drugs Still Popular in the U.S.

After Legalizing Cannabis, Colorado Moves to Legalize 'Magic' Mushrooms

Article HERE:

“There’s a lot of [slam dunk] research for all sorts of mental health issues. Everything from anxiety to depression to cluster headaches, addiction.”

Research has shown the psilocybin-assisted therapy “helps alleviate treatment-resistant depression by reviving emotional responsiveness in the brain.” The study, published in the scientific journal Neuropharmacology, found that depressed people had increased neural responses to fearful faces just one day after a psilocybin-assisted therapy session... People have since forgotten that just decades ago, tens of thousands of people were treated effectively with psychedelic substances.

Fortunately, new research affirms previous findings. This study, conducted by the University of South Florida, studied the effects of psilocybin mushrooms on fear-conditioned mice. Even the researchers were surprised by the results, which revealed that that the main ingredient in magic mushrooms, psilocybin, empowered the mice to get over their fear, as well as promoted new neurons growth and regeneration in their brains.

Another study, conducted by the University of Arizona in 2006, found that psilocybin mushrooms are very effective in reducing the symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). As EvolveandAscend reports, studies have also shown that psilocybin mushrooms are effective at treating depression, as well as treating post-traumatic stress disorder...

Furthermore, a recent study published by the Psychedelic Research Group at Imperial College in London, psychedelic mushrooms tend to make people more resistant to authority [Their emphasis throughout] The researchers also concluded that the experiences induced by the fungi cause people to be more connected with nature.

[The "resistance to authority" part which goes for all psychedelics, btw, is one of the main reasons why psychedelics were slapped w/ a Schedule 1 designation by the US government. In 1966, the US government was already in fear from the so-called emerging 'counter culture' and the last thing they needed or wanted were enlightened young people seeing through their hypocritical BS and resisting authority. Reagan banned them in 1966 and the rest (sadly) is history and the residual effects of this cultural programming "Just say no" paranoia about drugs in general Randall, rendered these powerful medical tools into the closet of fear and ignorance. Now that science has gained the balls to continue what was then and still is today— proven research results—that calico cat is now peeking back out of the bag! —chris]

LSD - The Jewel In the Crown of Psychedelics

I loved this line in the video - “Orthodoxy is the diehard in the world of thought. It learns nothing ... and an awful lot of science, as well as an awful lot of politics, is very orthodox”.

There is a popular YouTube channel PsychedSubstance, produced by a Canadian named Adam, which has a large number of videos out there, on a wide variety of psychedelic substances, that can be informative and entertaining.

Here are a couple.

Also recently read somewhere that ketamine is an effective substance for treating depression. Granted I think ketamine might be technically classified as a deleriant or a disassociative substance and not a psychedelic. Anyone who has experience with ketamine knows of its psychedelic nature.

Never been there and done that, but what I heard indicates that 'vitamin k' makes you not buy into anything in your reality. The house could be on fire and the place burning down around your ears and it would be cool, no problem... Now, not having direct experience w/ it, I can't comment from a place of authority, but it sounds like all your depression falls away, but does it come back? Haven't seen any studies or read any papers, anyone else know of any?

Is LSD the New Coffee?

Article HERE:

...The newest trend [in Silicon Valley]...involves chemistry with a coloured past — psychedelics. This time around, psychedelics may have less to do with astral planes and more to do with the mundanity of work. Is this the beginning of a new trip for all of us?

Breakfast, then LSD
They call it microdosing. Reams have been written about it, but here’re some basic facts:

LSD, psilocybin (street name: magic mushrooms) and marijuana are the usual weapons of choice. A microdose is about 15-20 micrograms, about a fifth of the recreational dose that causes you to “trip”. It doesn’t stop you from engaging in your daily routine. You don’t “switch off” from reality. Instead, you become sharper, creative and more social.

At least, that’s how the anecdotes go.

If all this sounds extremely unscientific, it is. Today, microdosing is more a fad but it’s fast becoming a reality. Startup founders, CEOs, programmers, designers, etc are all taking little doses of psychedelics, some daily and others once in a few days, and claiming positive results. Stories from microdosers claiming that it has helped them solve a difficult problem or crack a complex game level are common.

Interest in the trend is on the rise. The microdosing subreditt today has more than 17,000 subscribers compared to a couple of thousands back in 2015. A search for microdosing books on Amazon throws up more than 20 results with titles such as The New Psychedelic Revolution: The Genesis of the Visionary Age and A Really Good Day: How Microdosing Made a Mega Difference in My Mood, My Marriage, and My Life. If you look up micro dosing and silicon valley you'll see the many practical values of chemical mind expansion. creative spaces breed creative product. this has been true since the beginning of time. and while we can apply materialist science to understanding such spaces, which is good and worthwhile, it seems to me that the creative acts of psychonauts is a deeper human history and is responsible for possibly much more than what the materialists would have us believe. creativity is the essence of change in culture. the visionary leads the way. it's not a wonder that Paulka's new book, American Cosmic, posits that the brightest minds on this planet are eagerly engaged in UFO reality on their terms in order to make the products and advancements we use and are a party to every day. that she goes even further to state that these people are working every day with anomalous non human technological artefacts is another story altogether that probably could only be understood while on LSD.

Doesn't suprise me to learn that this is still happening today.

The British War Office discovered that between April and June 1940, at the height of the German blitzkrieg across France and the Low Countries, the Wehrmacht had consumed 35 million 3mg tablets of their own synthesized adrenaline, methamphetamine, which was marketed by a German pharmaceutical company under the name “Pervitin.”The Allies assumed that stimulants had played an important role in Germany’s military success, and Britain and the U.S. responded with their own field tests on the effects of amphetamines on soldiers’ performance. The LMH Archives contain records of British instructions on the use of Benzedrinein war operations. The instructions recommend that soldiers should ingest 5mg-10mg of Benzedrine sulphate every 5 to 6 hours, not exceeding 20mg per day, issued at the discretion of the unit Medical Officer when sleep was severely limited for several days.

‘Wakey-Wakey’ Pills

Ok so it doesn't talk about 'psychedelics' but I have a suspicion that the designers or planners wouldn't want to be at a disadvantage so they were (psychedelics) probably investigated and possibly even used, I mean some of the technology developed or that was attempted to be developed was 'unconventional' to say the least, concepts we still talk about today.
