This Week's Episode: Prolific paranormal author and commentator Dr. Joseph P. Farrell returns to The Paracast for a breakaway civilization roundtable. Does another civilization coexist with us on Earth, and what sort of influences do they have on our society? Can 9/11 and other tragedies be blamed on such outside influences? How about the present-day polarized political byplay? The discussion will include his recent books, such as, “The Grid of the Gods,” which focuses on ancient mysteries and the involvement of possible ETs. Author and former AFOSI agent and former FBI counterintelligence specialist Walter Bosley will join us as a member of the panel.

After The Paracast -- Available exclusively to Paracast+ subscribers on June 19: Gene and Chris are joined by Walter Bosley as they discuss the ET question and UFOs, and the belief in space brothers that are here to help us rather than to harm us. The discussion turns to the reasons for taking a proper skeptical attitude towards gathering evidence of paranormal events and coming to a conclusion using the traditional scientific method. Why hasn’t UFO research advanced? We discuss the growing skepticism about Roswell and the growing possibility it involved something totally conventional. Is there more reason to believe in UFOs as ETs than some sort of Earth-based source? Does pushing the ET meme serve as a way to hide the real source of this phenomenon? And why isn’t someone offering Chris a grant for all his work to resolve the mystery?

Growing Evidence of Earth-Based UFOs?

By Gene Steinberg

Is it possible that the theory that UFOs are extraterrestrial is, to some degree, falling apart? I realize that statement may seem outrageous to many of you. The ET theory has dominated the field for decades. Some people don’t even regard it as a theory, but an established fact.

Indeed, the ongoing discovery of more and more exoplanets — worlds that orbit other star systems — has raised the possibility that mainstream science will soon have actual evidence that there is abundant life in our universe, and that we have been and are being visited by beings who came here from out there.

Certainly the news media fuels the belief in space visitors. It’s not uncommon for articles about people interested in the subject to identify them as “ET believers.” That the “U” in UFO means “Unidentified” is often overlooked.

In addition to believing that UFOs are solid craft piloted by space visitors, some claim to have met them. I occasionally receive invitations on Facebook from people who are staging channeling sessions featuring people who claim to be in direct touch with the Space Brothers. In almost every case, these alleged beings deliver messages of peace and love, not dissimilar from what organized religions routinely present.

I won’t dwell too much on the ultimate cop-out — disclosure. Assuming the U.S. government knows the truth, people will demand they let us in on the secret. Why investigate anything if someone already knows the answer? All we have to do is convince them to tell us; we can handle it!

Now a cornerstone of the belief in UFOs is the legend of the Roswell crash. So a spaceship allegedly crashed near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 and, along with the wreckage of the craft, alien bodies were recovered and taken to a top secret military installation for further study.

As much as I’ve wanted to set this aside as a cold case, a relic of the past, that’s proven to be impossible. Roswell is, to many, the linchpin of the UFO mystery. It is the most important case that influences both UFO research and pop culture. Sure, the Air Force might insist it was nothing more than a Project Mogul test balloon, but isn’t that just another cover-up?

However, in recent months, Kevin D. Randle, one of the key Roswell researchers, appears to backing off on a fair amount of the evidence that he once believed would prove the case. While he still maintains that a real flying saucer from outer space crashed in the New Mexico desert, many of the claims he formerly accepted, such as reports of alien bodies seen in connection with the wreckage, are being set aside as not credible.

Whether he’ll take one more step, and conclude it was a test aircraft or balloon, may not be in the cards. But other Roswell researchers must be feeling uncomfortable, and certainly the people of Roswell would rather leave it be. The city is a tourist trap for people in search of the stuff of legend, and that’s the sort of business this sleepy city, with a population of over 48,000, wouldn’t want to give up.

Even if the Roswell craft was something unknown, must that mean that it came from outer space?

In the early days, my late friend Jim Moseley supported the “Earth theory,” that the unexplained flying saucers were indeed test aircraft of one sort or another. In those days, Jim was involved in fake feuds with his friend, Gray Barker, and both pulled some silly stunts from time to time. So to some degree, Jim adopted the terrestrial explanation as a counterpoint to Barker’s professed belief that the saucers were spaceships from parts unknown.

But I recall one conversation in which Jim’s behavior led me to believe that he actually believed the theory, at least to some degree. He was chatting with a fellow researcher, a friend of his, who admitted that one report that Jim held as evidence to prove his theory was actually a fake. Before my eyes, his beliefs appeared to shift, and he wasn’t play-acting.

At the end of his days, Jim believed that UFOs were a “4½ D” phenomenon, meaning that time and/or inter-dimensional travel might be involved.

But what about the Earth theory? Well that takes us back to the crazy story of Richard S. Shaver, who claimed that the saucers were piloted by beings who came from the caverns beneath the surface of the Earth. They were said to be remnants of an advanced race that left our planet in ancient times due to some catastrophe. Those who were abandoned retreated from the surface. Some were harmed by radiation and thus became malevolent dwarf-like creatures that Shaver called “deros.” The good guys, those who survived the cataclysm without harm, were identified as “teros.”

As much as you might want to dismiss Shaver as little more than a crackpot, the theory didn’t start with him. There have long been legends of advanced civilizations that existed thousands of years ago, but were destroyed due to a major catastrophic event. And what was really behind Noah’s Arc anyway? Was it a metaphor for a long-forgotten story of humans trying to escape armageddon?

In addition to a hidden race descended from an advanced civilization some call Atlantis or Lemuria, there are the theories about one or more breakaway civilizations. But these aren’t advanced ancient astronauts, but humans who decided to live separate from the rest of their people.

Author Walter Bosley, who has appeared on The Paracast on several occasions, has written books describing the establishment of a breakaway civilization in the 19th century. The airships mystery might be traced to that source. It’s also possible that others joined them in the mid-20th century. Some suggest that Nazi refugees might be there too, and that the UFOs that appeared in our skies after World War II were sent by dwellers from the caverns, or in hidden places on the Earth’s surface or in our oceans.

No ET needed. Well, unless we were once visited by aliens in Biblical times.

Now it may very well be that all or most UFOs are, as many people believe, visitors from outer space. It’s also possible that our visitors come from other dimensions, or have a more mystical origin. Perhaps our collective unconscious has created a consensus reality that includes flying disks under apparent intelligent control. There are loads of explanations, and cryptoterrestrials, intelligent beings who live apart from our troubled civilizations, may just be more noise that separates us from the actual signal.

One thing I’ve learned in all the years I’ve explored UFOs, and that is that the solution still eludes us, that we can only begin to understand the truth behind this incredible mystery.
