Do We Live in a Matrix?

The Matrix trilogy of films had an intriguing concept. Our reality isn’t what we think it is. We are all lying in stasis and living our lives through images presented by a massive computerized network. Once the truth is discovered, a group of rebels manages to defeat the baddies running that nasty system so we can live in the real world.
But wouldn’t it have been most fascinating to discover that the perceived reality was, itself, part of an even larger matrix?
Now the concept of a computerized reality wasn’t unique to those motion pictures. Some of the paranormal events we encounter from time to time themselves make it easy to question one’s grasp of reality, or what we consider to be reality. The UFO author, John Keel, once talked of “Ultraterrestrials” and a universe created and maintained by a computerized intelligence that might just be insane.
Oh the irony of it all!
But the very presence of UFOs conveys a morphing reality. The phenomenon seems to mirror popular culture in so many ways, and it may simply be the latest manifestation of events that have occurred throughout history. But, again, we see them in accordance with our culture and the state of our civilization. So in ancient times, we might have come to regard so-called “advanced” beings as gods. Today, it’s just ET. Tomorrow? I wouldn’t care to suggest.
Other paranormal events may also mirror one’s concept of reality. So an apparition might appear to be the living spirit of a dead person who has been unable to “see the light” and elevate to another plane of existence for one reason or another. Or maybe the apparition is itself a mirror into an alternate reality, or some event recorded and played back over and over again (looped) by a means as yet unknown to us. I wouldn’t presume to guess which possibilities are correct.
The other issue is whether the very act of seeing something strange somehow impacts its external reality and behavior. Maybe I’m delving into the curious world of quantum physics here, but if reality is malleable, you wonder whether it’s even possible to live a predictable existence. How, might I ask, can you alter that reality to your own advantage, or to the advantage of those whom you care about? Or maybe that’s not possible, so no sense worrying about it.
But it may well be that the advanced beings who are in control of various paranormal events consider our reality to be little more than a gigantic video game. They can alter the conditions whenever they want. The things we remember may not even be real, but cosmic implants. Maybe that’s why different people remember events differently. But if that was true, it would sure resolve a hell of a lot of arguments.
Of course, discussing reality may just take us nowhere. If reality is a figment of our collective imaginations, or is being altered through no fault of our own, it’s not as if you can prove anything. Once you get that proof, it may just poof out of existence the very next day. And that can give rise to an awful lot of conspiracy theories. It wasn’t a symptom of an altered reality, but the result of the Men In Black or some other authority stealing that evidence. Yes, it was all their fault!
Anyway, since a debate of this sort is probably pointless, maybe the answer is that we are only seeing a small part of reality. Certainly the limits of our senses, assuming all are functioning at normal levels, severely limits our perception of the things around us. Through evolution and other sources of change to the human condition, perhaps we will, over time, learn how to see more of that reality, for better or worse.
We are trying. People meditate, pray to their preferred deity, or perhaps take a chemical substance to invoke some sort of consciousness expansion. Or maybe it just happens, when we are good and ready. But if it does, you have the quandary of some people being attuned to this higher reality, or whatever it is, and others seeing nothing beyond their normal existence.
What this means, though, is that it’s pointless to expect an ultimate disclosure of UFO reality by Earthly governments. That knowledge will come to you when you are ready, either because of the state of your spiritual development, or through the intervention of some sort of external force that you cannot control.
And if the powers that direct higher consciousness are not quite sane, perhaps there’s nothing you can do about it anyway. It doesn’t matter whether you live the good, healthy life, or gorge on fast food while watching endless hours of realty television as many do.
If it’s meant to happen -- or someone wants it to happen -- it will. But to me that’s an awfully depressing vision of the way things are. I prefer to believe that we do have some semblance of control over our own lives, and how we choose to exist in our paranormal universe.
