Howard Stern's sidekick, Robin Quivers, told of her military background when, as an Air Force lieutenant — she was a trauma nurse — she was informed she had been paid at a level above her rank. So she had to live for a while at a lower pay scale as that money was deducted from her paycheck. That's back in the 1970s, I think, so this is nothing new.
