Well photos can be painted to retouch them but again, the original negatives would tell all. The objects in question appear to be part of a continuous structure making the idea of metal elements making no sense. You are right about the clean edges. If there's retouching going on it seems that this is the era of photoshop making ths photo look much more like the guilty candidate as the material in all the photos look like a continuous foil object.
