Whenever one runs across bold statements about UFOs from current or former high level government officials the inclination is to take special notice.
I ran across a link on Robert Hastings' excellent website to an article by Victor Marchetti, published in the May 1979 issue of "Second Look" magazine. Marchetti was former special assistant to the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency under Richard Helms. Marchetti apparently ran afoul of certain elements within the Agency who were unhappy with a book Marchetti intended to publish about the intelligence community. The tiff was not necessarily UFO related and I digress.....
At any rate, no smoking gun here. But it may be a little warm, so to speak. This is old stuff, but should probably be better known in UFO circles than it is. The article makes for interesting reading about how intelligence agencies view the UFO phenomenon.
