Welcome back to Dark Matters Radio and, believe it or not, Week 34 right here on CyberstationUSA. First, some “local news.”
My wife Vicki has always loved the beach.
Southern Calf. Beach


Being here in Southern California means that we are not too far from any one of a number of beaches, when the mood strikes, to go visit one. Now, the last several years Vicki has been doing the “background actress” gig, and she has appeared on too many shows to recall. However on one of her gigs, “Heroes”, she met another Vicki and they became good buddies. Now the other Vicki may soon move back east and she called my Vicki up last week and asked if she wanted to go to the beach on Saturday, you know, since Summer is for all intents and purposes … over. My Vicki, never needing an excuse, said Sure! Off they went … and later that day home she came home barely crawling. My Vicki got caught in a tremendous “riptide”, got knocked off her feet and severely injured her ankle. I ended up taking her to the Emergency Room at our local hospital Sunday morning and she is now temporarily laid up!
Usually that would not be a major issue cause I pick up the ball, but I have been laid up a bit with some back problems. Seems like every once in awhile some (former Soviet Russian shrapnel) in my back from Viet Nam kicks up and does me a “funky.” It kicked up a little over a week ago and I been dealing with that. Oh Crikey! What a pair we currently are! Okay, enough whining from me.
Monday September 6 was Labor Day and since most folks took the day off (it being the end of Summer and all) Dark Matters Radio ran the classic episode of STS-48! No matter how you carve it that is one heck of a story. If you missed it make sure you catch it in the Dark Matters Archives.

If you are familiar with “Comic Con” you will be aware of how many folks have really jumped into that fray. I have always thought my novel, Past Sins, would make a great transition into the graphic novel world and I am sure we might even touch on that. Weds. & Thursday TBA

Now that Summer is arriving, most of us will be spending more time outside enjoying the milder weather and growing vegetation. Perhaps a lot of us will start looking up at the sky hoping to see something “unusual.” At least I hope so. Why?
Well, it seems that the UFO topic has pretty much dropped off the radar. Most of the news has been pretty bad of late. In Iraq, suicide bombings continue, the American political landscape is in turmoil over the issue of undocumented immigrants, with various aspects being highlighted; “national security vs. human rights,” “economic meltdown vs. millions paying into the tax structure,” etc., ad nauseam. Geeze, can you imagine what would happen if we were suddenly confronted with an extraterrestrial immigration? It seems to me we NEED an influx of UFO information to “jump-start” the silly season, as it was once called.
When you are dealt lemons you really should make lemonade. But I digress.
Once again I received an email from a TV producer who suddenly discovered the UFO subject! Over the years I’ve received hundreds of such calls from the TV industry. It kind of goes like this. . . .

TV Guy: Uh, hi Don! (sounds like my newest best-est buddy!) I’m Joe TV and I want to do a special on the UFO thingy!

ME: Great! So, what did you have in mind?

TV Guy: (or sometimes TV Girl) Well, I was on the Internet and I came across this webpage that says that aliens are eating us. So, tell me everything you know in the next three minutes ‘cause I have a meeting with the Gazillion-Dollar Network President in a half an hour!!! I think I have a winner for a special!!

ME: Well, Joe, I gotta tell ya, that in all my years in this business I’ve never really seen any evidence that the ETs are eating us. So, where did you see this page?

TV Guy: Um, where did I see the . . . what?

ME: Well, Joe, the webpage that says the aliens are eating us, remember?

TV Guy: Oh, that. Well this guy -- let me check, oh yeah -- the Paranoid Schizoid Website where all the SECRET alien suppressed information is!

ME: Oh, that website. Well, Joe, we did an investigation on that two years ago and found out that this guy had a nervous breakdown several years ago when he was working as a widget counter. Now, if you want to do a special on UFOs, let me tell you about this case we are working on now. We discovered this document in the Presidential Archives of . . .
. (Now I can hear his eyes glazing over!)

TV Guy: What? I’m really interested in the aliens eating us thingy!

ME: Well, Joe, I’m sorry but I have no information on anything like that.

TV Guy: Okay, how about this? This other webpage says that aliens are really LIZARDS and that George Bush senior and the Queen are really LIZARDS in disguise and they’re plotting to take over the world! Gee, you’ve heard all about that one, right?

ME: Joe, yes, I’ve heard that, but wow! You don’t really buy into that, do you?

( 15 seconds of deafening silence)

TV Guy: Well! Okay, thanks. Click!

Maybe I should have spun him a story. On the other hand, I’ve written this very well-received horror novel. Hey TV Guy! Wanna break into the movie biz? Cause let me tell ya, I’ll have my people call your people and we can do the lunch thing! Oh yes! Let’s do a power lunch and I can pitch you on the latest soon-to-be breaking HORROR CRAZE! Or, you can pick my brains that are storing 20 years of esoteric UFO research and then refuse to use any of it!
Oh, the shame! The shame of it all!

The RSS link on the Dark Matters Radio main page is not compatible with iTunes or any other podcast app I tried--it doesn't link to the MP3s.

I'm a late comer to DMR and I'm enjoying catching up immensely. Especially enjoying shows on lunar anomaly and finding lot's of other fascinating shows.

If this isn't possible or this is the hundredth time someone has bugged you about it or you just don't want to do it, I apologize, but I was wondering if your web master could add a column down the left hand side of the table labeled WEEKS and put the week number for each row in it. I'm finding it a bit cumbersome to locate shows by week number and day, especially since the table doesn't start with week 1, so counting up from the bottom doesn't work unless you know to start with 6. It might make the archive more accessible for those of us who are coming in late, or who's brains are just getting to old to adapt. I figure this would be a simpler enhancement than referencing dates in the table.

Just a suggestion.

Ok I am not a big conspiracy theorist or paranoid tweeker, but it does seem curious to me that each time you get a guest who starts talking about sensitive stuff suddenly the SHOW GOES CAPUT --WIPED OFFLINE? :confused::confused:

Welcome back to Week 33 of DMR! First, some information. If you were tuned into DMR on Friday August 27, you will have noted we went off the air just about 20 minutes prior to the end of the show. What happened was a power outage. These kinds of things do happen .. and I had no control over it. All I can say is … Oh Crap!
This week on DMR we started out with a best of show that featured the enigmatic Robert Lazar and Gene Huff on August 30. This is one of those UFO/WTF stories that never really go away. I was there at the dawn of this story and even now, after all that time, I must admit that there are parts of the Lazar saga that still have me mystified. Oh well …

Norio’s involvement into the west coast UFO scene goes all the way back to the 1980′s and is connected with the Area 51 story. Norio Hayakawa was a former director of the Civilian Intelligence Network. Now a defunct group, the Civilian Intelligence Network was, at one time, a loosely-knit network of investigative researchers and intelligence gatherers who primary focus for the past two decades (i.e., from 1988 to 2008) was on the government’s operation location near Groom Lake, Nevada, commonly known as Area 51. CIN was initially established in 1988 as a civilian watchdog group, or oversight “committee” on the government’s various Black Projects programs. The past decade, however, has seen the growth of other larger, well-organized and funded citizens’ groups such as the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) who activities have had major impact on government accountability on relevant issues such as environmental issues. Thus the role of smaller groups such as CIN was minimalized. He now supports the Federation of American Scientists (FAS).
Norio Hayakawa had the privilege of seeing with his own eyes this amazing research, development and test base several times from both the White Sides and the Freedom Ridge during the early 1990′s when those nearby hills were not closed off to the public (because the government at that time was not aware that the base could be seen from those hilltops). Although he has retired from his many years of Area 51 research and investigations, he still tries to keep up with the latest information on this significant base. However, his main focus now is getting to the bottom of the rumors behind the alleged existence of a joint government/alien underground bio-lab in Dulce, New Mexico.

Chuck has had an amazing career in broadcast and was the man that brought us the first reports (on CNN) of the Bentwaters UFO case.

And … this may be nothing … it might be something … ( I sure as Hell do not know) but once again … we did experience technical problems during the show. It’s been many years since Don and I have attended a UFO conference, or any other type conference, for that matter. But our chosen retreat changed in August when we spent time in downtown Los Angeles at this year’s national convention of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), of which Don is a member. The Congressionally mandated organization, founded in 1782 by none other than George Washington, honors combat-wounded veterans from all the wars America has fought. For those still living, the distinction seems to appeal more to older veterans, so most MOPH patriots seen at these confabs sport gray hair and a slowing gait; some are in wheelchairs or are otherwise infirm. These are noble veterans, deep pride in their service showing on well-worn faces, harboring impressive memories etched from wars in Korea and Vietnam, though a good number of remaining World War II vets also claim membership in MOPH.
When I first walked into the event, making a comparison was inevitable: Like those first days of our UFO conferences of yore, here and there tight groups of friends and acquaintances were excitedly catching up, while exhibitors’ tables were being neatly arranged with Purple Heart memorabilia to be sold by vets and others needing to make a little money from this special interest event. All organizations feed the beast, however. Some in-group gossiping occurred; complaints and frustrations were aired now and again and the usual political conflicts and one-upmanship made for some tense moments, but for the most part the MOPH brotherhood stood strong and unified in the recognition of their own heritage of sacrifice in the name of American freedoms.
That’s where the contrast between UFO conferences and this one strikingly hit home. Unlike the UFO community’s periodic gatherings of men and women trying to find some unity within their ephemeral and misunderstood “special interest,” veterans are automatically linked on a deep level by having tasted first-hand the bitterest costs of freedom. They’ve witnessed violent, often pointless deaths and many still suffer lingering illnesses and trauma borne of taking on America’s enemies. They have lived to tell about it as best they can, hoping to emphasize the profound importance of what soldiers do on behalf of the U.S. Most vets take this as a near-sacred responsibility. What soldiers, living and dead,*are—their character and commitment—means even more, but the far too many “politically correct” Americans they often observe failing to fully acknowledge these heroes, or even thwarting their mission, lends a sad undercurrent to their great cause.
California’s Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made an appearance to present awards to National Guard veterans from the war in Iraq. The “Governator” expressed his admiration and respect for the veterans and once again reminded his audience of the unmatched opportunities he found in this country and what they mean to him. While some see this as just another “photo op” for an elected official, the vets appreciated the governor’s words, laudatory feedback not that forthcoming in their daily lives. This is particularly true of Vietnam veterans, whose sacrifices have largely been written off as a tragic result of a futile war ending in defeat due to the repeated bungles made by incompetent and misguided officialdom trying to outfox a stubborn enemy and prop up a discouraged nation. Once again I will say: The veterans of that war are still owed a huge reconciliation by the country they served. The Wall is just one beginning.
Vicariously sensing the impact of these men’s lives over the course of a few days made my and others’ UFO activities look like so many puerile follies. Yet I had to reflect on my own sacrifices made during my long tenure in this UFO field, and though what I’ve gone through hardly matches that of a combat veteran, there are things I’ve missed as a civilian woman and journalist due to my focus on this belittled subject.
At the heart of it, though, I cannot deny that for all my long education about UFO matters, I haven’t the slightest solid notion as to the real reason America has kept UFO facts tightly under wraps or marginalized with ridicule and ignorance. I could – and have – speculate to the point of resenting and berating my country’s leaders and militarists, and find excuses for that in my suspicions about their possible Constitutional infractions. But after the MOPH gathering, I’m more than ever convinced that my commitment to America as it faces down another, even tougher enemy far exceeds my periodic impulse to lash out against secrecy and deception. Both are a part of war, and like it or not, we’re in a war.
I don’t remember anyone talking about the current war on terror during the conference. No one I was around said a word about Hezbollah in Lebanon, the NSA wiretaps, the apparent reinvigoration of the Taliban in Afghanistan or the hunt for Bin Laden. The question of whether the war in Iraq is justified just never arose. These issues were beside the point – the point being that some valuable and honorable Americans have taken bullets and worse for the implicit ideal that makes America stand out among Earth’s nations, regardless of public opinion on the war in question. That they share a bond and brotherhood beyond the simple distinction of being Americans. They’re Americans willing to die for freedom. There’s a beauty and selflessness in that which outshines the common man, or woman. I can only acknowledge being a tiny part of it by association.
Somewhere in the depths of unknown places in our world, there may be those who’ve sacrificed on behalf of some central UFO secret. Perhaps they are owed something, perhaps not. I can only speculate. But America’s war veterans and the wars they’ve fought inarguably stand for the very rights that allow this magazine and others to exist. So to any vets who may read this: Thank you for your service. What you mean to all of us is, like freedom, immortal.

I Get The Last Word

Greetings, *UFO readers. Here in southern California, the August sun continues its brutal summer assault. My AC is presently on the fritz but I managed to save the day while writing by bringing in my living room fan. Now on to this issue’s rant.
I actually knew what my subject would be back in late June. A buddy of mine had called me asking if I’d caught Nick Redfern’s appearance on Noory’s Coast To Coast radio program, and Redfern’s explanation of what really occurred almost 60 years ago at Roswell, New Mexico. I hadn’t, but my friend made an MP-3 recording and sent it off to me immediately. Aha! Once again, the final explanation? My mind raced back to 1997 and the Pentagon’s “The Roswell Report: Case Closed” explanation. Having endured what then seemed like an endless spate of radio and television interviews, I was totally familiar with the Air Force’s “spin-doctoring.”
The day the report was released by the U.S. Air Force, I was sitting in NBC’s Burbank studios waiting to be interviewed for MSNBC, watching the televised Air Force press briefing. The Air Force spokesperson was once again giving the final word on what “really happened” in Roswell way back in 1947. (Unfortunately, I didn’t receive my copy of the Air Force report document until *after I appeared on this program. What I could have done with *that!) And remember, by the time this explanation was laid on the American public, the Air Force had already claimed “we got a disc,” in 1947; “Oops, nope, not a disc, but actually a weather balloon!” later in 1947, and then fast-forward 40-plus years and it’s “Nope! It was *really a Project Mogul balloon!” in the 1990s. Oh goody -- now they’re going to give us one last good old college try.
I listened to this poor Air Force colonel coyly talk about how even he might have been fooled, had he been driving somewhere down in the southwest U.S. and had come across something like this! Quick camera shot to page 45 of the “Report,” showing a Viking space probe from 1972! Of course, not a word on how somebody in 1947 could have seen a NASA probe from 25 years into the future! Another unforgettable moment was when this guy was asked a question about the bodies a number of witnesses had claimed to see. Hey, no problem. The Air Force was ready with what I somewhat cynically thought was another “instant” explanation.
Starting in 1953 and running until 1959, the Air Force conducted high altitude parachute experiments using anthropomorphic test dummies, dropping them from altitudes as high as almost 100,000 feet. The experiments made sense; in fact, one officer, Captain Joseph Kittinger, Jr., jumped from an altitude of 102,800 on August 16, 1960. This is still a world’s record. But I can already hear you asking me, “Hey Ecker, the Roswell event, or whatever in hell it was, was in 1947. You said these tests started in 1953. What gives?” Well, you’re right. What gives? According to the ever-facile Air Force, it was an example of “time compression!” In other words, all those folks who claimed they saw bodies at the Roswell event really were simply confused, because what they really saw were Air Force test dummies in about 1953 or so. For just a brief second, I tried to think what would have happened with my dad, had I ever tried to convince him that what he remembered from the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 -- the cold winter, the snow, the Germans, etc., -- he had really confused with his later experiences as a troop in Korea at the start of that war. I think my ears are still ringing! Yeah, time compression. That’s the ticket.
So, I got a copy of Nick Redfern’s Coast to Coast interview and listened to it, then I called him. As he details in his new book, *Body Snatchers in the Desert: The Horrible Truth At The Heart Of The Roswell Story, Redfern was able to locate a number of now 80-plus year-old former government workers, who over the years claimed that through their jobs, they stumbled over what really happened in Roswell in 1947. After speaking with Redfern, I must say he was most even handed about what he dug up. As he told me, there was always the possibility that this information might be disinformation. But his sources claim that what came down was terrestrial debris and human beings from an ultra-secret experiment that had its origins in Imperial Japan.
As we all know, near the latter days of World War II, the Japanese launched hundreds of what were
called Fugo Balloons, which carried bombs that the Japanese hoped would reach the U.S. via the jet
stream. Upon reaching the west coast of the U.S., the balloons would release the bomb load and
(according to Japanese hopes) raging fires would erupt. Some bomb loads did make it here, and a
small number of civilians even became causalities, but this was successfully hidden from the Japanese
military. Redfern went on to tell me that had the war not ended in August of 1945, there were plans
being made for a very large array of balloons carrying a Horton type glider, crewed by Japanese
Kamikaze pilots to be sent over here carrying biological weapons to release over American airspace.
Redfern’s speculation, buttressed by his unnamed sources, posits that much like Operation Paperclip,
U.S. Intelligence brought Japanese officers to the United States from their biological warfare units,
so as to study their research. The suggestion was that the U.S. tested the concept that the Japanese
came up with, to launch this Horton-type craft from a balloon manned by Japanese pilots. According
to Redfern’s speculation) the device crashed, the balloon debris falling on the Brazel ranch and the
Horton type device with the Japanese pilots crashing elsewhere. Of course, over the last few years, almost as many “explanations” for Roswell have been proposed
as years have gone by. I thanked Nick Redfern for his research on this seminal case, and that while
I disagree with his speculation, we can never have too many researchers looking at the Roswell event.
Now, with the passage of almost 60 years, I question whether we will truly know the truth. But for me,
the ET explanation seems to answer most of the questions about what went down there. Over the years
I’ve spoken with several first hand witnesses and they were totally convinced that what crashed there
in 1947 was an alien ship. Who am I to disagree with them?

I Get the Last Word

20 years of publishing a UFO magazine is neither easy or at times, much fun. It is kind of like the little kid trying to convince the adults to go outside and see the weird “thing”, whatever it might be, that the kid just saw. He knows that there is something there, but convincing everyone else can be a real chore!

We’ve always been in a strange position here at UFO Magazine. Back in the early years I was convinced that with just the right case and with just the right presentation, mainstream would look up and notice. Then, they might agree that this UFO thing just might be a topic worth investigating. And there were cases over the years that I still believe should have been the ones! Of course Roswell has been done to death, and in my opinion, done to death poorly. Regardless of the facts that the US Government and its military services lied about the case, AND admitted they lied about it … never made a difference with our “mainstream” media. Its kind of funny, but for example, let todays government officials make a statement about the war in Iraq or Homeland Security or the latest terrorist plot and the media will TEAR IT apart! However, let the topic of UFOs rear its head and that same Government Official say it was a weather balloon or a “Mogul” balloon and they accept it at face value. What is it about UFOs?

Another case that always puzzled me was the case of the Soviet Russian Phobos probes sent to Mars back in 1988. The Russians launched two probes, almost unnoticed by media here in the West, (although NASA was a BIG PART of that mission) looses one probe in a little over a month, the second probe gets to Mars, takes some very amazing photographs, then it is destroyed by “something” that Glavkosmos says “shouldn’t” be there and NOTHING! We, (UFO Magazine) get a picture from a very high former Soviet Air Force Pilot, Dr. Marina Popovich, a former Colonel in the Red Air Force, show it on national television (Larry King Live) and the media doesn’t even care enough about it to ask the obvious question, what in hell is THAT? Oh, it must be a “glitch” in the photograph because WE ALL KNOW THAT SOMETHING LIKE THAT COULDN”T BE REAL! Of course when we got the picture from the Russians they said they didn’t have a clue what that was. But hang on, our Skeptics said the Russians were simply “full of it”, after all EVERYBODY KNOWS that the Russians are superstitious, they believe in all kinds of weird things. (And the skeptics are hoping that we have forgotten that the Russians put up the very first satellite Sputnik, launched the very first man into space, and gave us one hell of a run for our money going to the Moon.) And speaking of the Moon ….

Haven’t you ever wondered why we had such a breakneck race to get to the Moon before the Russki’s back in the 1960’s? Why did we spend untold billions of dollars (and the Russians untold billions of rubles) to get to the Moon, then only land 6 times and wash our hands of it? As a matter of fact the Russians ended up NEVER even sending any of their Cosmonauts up to the Moon. For over 10 years after landing on the Moon, other than Skylab meeting a Russian vehicle in orbit and docking with them, we pretty much left spaceflight behind. Oh sure, the shuttle was on the drawing boards, our “space truck” as it was called, but except for some interplanetary probes we kept right here to Earth. There were rumors to be sure, but when NASA was asked why we stopped going to the Moon, after a decade of promises of what was to come, do you know what they said? Why, after landing on the Moon the American public lost “INTEREST” in going back so we stopped. My God! What a crock! As if the American public loosing interest in something EVER stopped anything a government agency was involved in! Remember the War in VietNam? That lasted about 15 years and people lost interest in that LONG AGO. Of course the media never followed up on the Moon thing. It has been almost 35 years since we set foot on the Moon, and today people have long stopped asking about it.

Well UFO Magazine has often asked such questions and as long as we publish we will continue to ask those questions. The reason? If even one “UFO” in the last 10,000 years has been extra-terrestrial, that is the biggest story in human history. Now, that is a story worth reporting on!

I Get The Last Word

Sitting down to write this column I suddenly realized that the “Fall Equinox” just arrived the other day, and the end of 2005 is fast approaching. Suddenly summer is gone, the fall season has arrived and before we realize it, Christmas will ambush us. Suddenly my mind drifted back years ago and I dejectedly (once again) accepted the fact that the UFO field has not evolved with all this passage of time.

I was recently doing some research on an aspect of the UFO field and for the first time in months dug out all my Major Donald Keyhoe books. Vicariously through Keyhoe’s writing, I again re-lived his and NICAP’s glory days in the 50’s and 60’s while I searched for the desired information I needed. In hindsight of course, I smiled as I read some of Keyhoes guarded barbs concerning the frauds then in the UFO field. ( And not unsurprisingly these folks still have followers today!) The George Adamski’s, the Dan Fry’s, etc., the names have changed but the game goes on. As a matter of fact, I just got hit in the face with it two nights ago as I write this, with a fraud UFO Magazine covered not long ago, and a well known researcher who is going to address the Orange County MUFON group … about this fraud! So I am sure you’re asking who is this fraud and the researcher promoting him. Well … the folks in question are Dan Burish aka Dan Crain and UFO researcher Bill Hamilton. Depressing yes but not unexpected.

All the way back in Volume 7, number 3 of UFO Magazine (May-1992) I did an expose on one Mel Noel aka Guy Kirkwood and his imaginary adventures as an Air Force pursuit pilot in the 1950’s chasing and photographing UFOs. Actually this was an old hoax, having been exposed several times. However gentle readers, why let the “facts” of a “good story” intrude? This hoax surfaces from time to time, and at the time I had Guy drop by my house where I showed him the story ahead of time. I then told him that all he had to do was to produce his military discharge papers and we would not run the story. He promised to get his military discharge papers to me asap … and I am still waiting. He never did, but Bill Hamilton jumped on the band wagon defending Noel/Kirkwood. He took a couple of shots at me (yeah I know, but it comes with the job) claiming I “got all my facts wrong!” When I challenged him to tell me what facts I got wrong on a public UFO mail list, he finally said I got Noel/Kirkwoods middle names wrong. ( Well geeze, at the time we had three names for Noel/Kirwood. Who the hell knew which one was right? But at anyrate, cutting to the chase, I asked Hamilton about Noel/Kirwood’s discharge papers. He claimed he saw them, shown by Kirkwood, but he had no obligation to have Noel/Kirkwood get them to me. Hamilton was a believer! Hey, twas a great story! I suppose the Burish saga is a good story too.

Dr. Dan Burish, with his non-existent degree, with his miracle non-existent cancer cure and his nefarious activities at Area 51 make one hell of a good story. Just the right formula to convince the “straight” scientific community to take a look at our subject. But lest you think I’m picking on Hamilton, he is by no means the only figure to get taken in.

Linda Moulton Howe has been around the UFO arena for almost 25 years. I first encountered her work in Denver way back in the early 80’s when she reported on her “Strange Harvest” documentary. I recently saw her presentation an the 2005 NUFOC conference and was quite amazed by what she had to say. Well, not that I should have been surprised.

A.J. Gervard, Editor of the Brazilian UFO Magazine perhaps said it best at http://www.ufowatchdog.com/ajbrazil.html. Howe has been promoting a known Brazilian fraud by the name of Urandir Fernandes de Oliveira. This is another guy with one hell of a story which includes but is NOT LIMITED TO, encounters and abductions with blond ET’s and another 38 alien races, but he even claims to have met Jesus Christ! Stick that on your UFO resume … Bunky! Most recently Linda was discussing the alien bio-threat that the Roswell Crash presented. Whew! Some more unsubstantiated doom and gloom!! And to think that “mainstream UFOlogists” are upset that nobody seems to take us and UFOs seriously! Science?? Nope, P.T. Barnum!

Wow i had forgotten this interview Don. The Battle of LA, it was a great show from all the way back in February. Having a front row seat like that in 1942 was an amazing tale on the radio to hear. So thanks again Don for this little Gem.

Don, in several of your podcasts I've heard mention of a New York Times article concerning a voluntary shutdown of radio broadcasts and someone receiving a signal that when decoded turned out to be a photograph that was interpreted as a face.

Are there any links or headlines that you have or further information? This subject matter intrigues me quite a bit.
